She received her GED in 2003 and attended Crowder College. She has been working in the substance abuse field for more than a year and currently holds a position as the VA Financial Counselor at The H.O.U.S.E. Incorporated where she has recently obtained her credentials as a Recognized Associate Substance Abuse Counselor I. Katie is also employed by the Department of Mental Health as a Consumer Conference Co-Chair to put on the Real Voices Real Choices Conference which applies to all three spectrums of mental health, including alcohol and drug abuse. She currently serves the community as the Chairman of the Southwest Missouri Homeless Coalition. This is a group dedicated to preventing homelessness in the area.
